Genuine Feminine Impowerment

Topics: Political News and commentaries

Although I hate to disagree with Greg, the women in my family carry the Sig P938. Although I personally used to use the Sccy CPX-2 for my light carry, I now use the Sig C3 (45 auto ... which can be handled by many women, as well) for light carry ... otherwise I prefer my Remington Model 1911 R1 full frame 45 Auto - clothing permitting. I have to admit being partial to single action semi-automatics (with chambered round - safety on) in 9mm (for women) and 45 Auto for myself (the full frame R1 is a lot more fun at the range - and darn accurate, especially in tactical shooting practice). Using Kydex IWB (inside the waist band) holsters makes both easy to carry concealed, it's just that the Sig C3 is a little lighter and smaller.

Via Examiner.com, CNN reported in Janueary 2014 that "Almost 80 percent of gun retailers reported a rise in female customers in 2012, according to industry figures. In Florida, 22 percent of the concealed carry permits are held by women. In Texas, women hold 28 percent of concealed carry permits, up sharply over the past decade."

Shirley Hedge spent more than 40 years saving lives as a nurse.

Now retired, "Shotgun Shirley" represents the biggest increase among Florida's more than 1 million people who have concealed-weapon permits: women 66 and older.

Hedge, 66, is one of 34,937 women in her age bracket licensed to carry a gun almost anywhere they want in Florida and 35 other states. Their numbers have jumped 619 percent since 2004 -- the earliest year with available data -- when there were 4,856 women licensed in the same age group, according to state records.

The number of women in the youngest age bracket, 21 to 35, jumped 463 percent to 40,386 -- four times more than men in the same age group.
