'Shockingly Stupid' Math Problem Definitely Worthy of Common Core

A difference of 145 is reasonable? Only in the convoluted universe of Common Core math.

As Twitchy points out at the link, while the "front-end estimation" method has been taught for decades, it is sadly typical that a Common Core-aligned lesson plan would embrace this flawed estimation technique as a valid way to "check" that an answer is "reasonable."

Bottom line, NRO's characterization of Common Core math as "a return to mathematical ignorance" is damn well spot-on!
