Barack Obama conned his way into office promising hope and change ... but clearly the only change America got was less hope. According to a new pol conducted by the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, Americans enter 2014 with a profoundly negative view of their government, and they express little hope that elected officials can or will solve the nation's biggest problems:

[...] Half say America's system of democracy needs either "a lot of changes" or a complete overhaul, according to the poll conducted by the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. Just 1 in 20 says it works well and needs no changes.

Americans, who have a reputation for optimism, have a sharply pessimistic take on their government after years of disappointment in Washington.

The percentage of Americans saying the nation is heading in the right direction hasn't topped 50 in about a decade. In the new poll, 70 percent lack confidence in the government's ability "to make progress on the important problems and issues facing the country in 2014."

More here ...

Both sides of the aisle in the Senate and the House have to share some of the blame here, but much of the blame has to go to Harry Reid in the Senate for refusing to negotiate or compromise or even put up for a vote. anything the GOP has to offer.

Yet the overwhelming majority of the blame lies with Barack Obama's complete failure of leadership, who time and time again has shown that he refuses to - or doesn't know how to - lead. Leadership always begins at the top, and when you have a president that totally refuses to negotiate, comromise, or work with the opposition - 'period', letting Harry Reid (and Valerie Jarrett) ... or Nancy Pelosi in the case of Obamacare ... essentially 'run the show', the net result is what we have now ... 70 percent of our population having lost confidence in government.
