Washington Navy Yard Mass Shooting Suspect ID'd as Civilian Contractor Aaron Alexis (Updated)

Topics: National News

In the words of Obama ... he could have been one of his sons!

OB-YX934_alexis_DV_20130916165105.jpgNBC News identifies the suspect in the Washington D. C. Navy Yard shooting as Aaron Alexis, 34, originally of Ft. Worth, Texas. He is a civilian contractor and reportedly used the ID of a former employee to gain access into the facility. Twelve people are dead and several others wounded. The death toll is expected to rise. The potential shooter was described by witnesses as carrying a long gun, which some have said could have been an assault rifle.

Meanwhile, no one has a clue as to what the motive is for the shooting. Let me repeat that: NO ONE has a clue as to what the motive for this atrocity is ...

The only thing safely noting about the motive at this point is - No, it wasn't a Tea Party conspiracy.

Well worth mentioning is that the Self-Praiser in Chief kept campaigning as Americans were being killed.

UPDATE: 4:22 p.m. Washington, D.C. mayor Vincent Gray confirmed that there are 13 total fatalities from this morning's shooting, including the gunman. He also said authorities do not suspect the shooting was an act of terrorism, but have not ruled it out.

UPDATE: 5:08 p.m. The FBI has posted photos of Alexis and urged people to contact the organization with any information.

Alexis had been detached from the Navy in 2011 after an earlier gun arrest in Ft. Worth, Texas, a U.S. official said Monday. Mr. Alexis had joined the Navy in 2007, another official said..

UPDATE: 8:10 p.m. "Mr. Alexis was a 'hardcore drinker' a friend said, and 'was also skilled in first-person shooting videogames, which he would play for marathon sessions that lasted hours'. The friend said he and his family would sometimes bring Mr. Alexis plates of food during his videogame binges.

More to come ...
