Newtown dad: 'You'll have to take my guns from my cold dead hands' (Video)

Bill Stevens, whose daughter attended Sandy Hook Elementary school, testified before a Working Group Public Hearing at the Connecticut State Capitol on gun violence prevention. Mr. Stevens told the committee about his daughter's 5th grade friend at the school (h/t - Jim Hoft):

"Unfortunately, her friend's little sister was murdered in Sandy Hook that day when lock-down and 911 were not enough to protect her from an evil person ... Charlton Heston made the phrase "From my cold dead hands" famous and I am here to tell you today, you will take my ability to protect my Victoria from my cold dead hands."

Mr. Stevens's points are spot-on and commonsensical. As for background checks, I have no problem with them, but they don't stop criminals from using guns illegally. As a YouTube commenter aptly noted, every criminal always has a first time - as did the nutjob that committed the Sandy Hook murders; and as did the Sandy Hook killer, if a criminal wants a gun he'll simply steal one. Background checks prove nothing, it neither shows who will commit a crime or if an innocent person that they won't commit a crime in the future. On the other hand, something definitely needs to be done about keeping guns away from the mentally ill.
