'Anti-Israel' Democratic Party Strips Out Pro-Israel Language From Platform (Updated - God and Civil liberties stripped as well)

Topics: Israel, Political News and commentaries

In what should be a real wake-up call to every pro-Israel American that naively and foolishly believed Barack Obama when he said he "has Israel's back," the president's party has just stripped pro-Israel language from its platform. And as Yid the Lid points out, given that Obama told President Mevedev of Russia he will have more flexibility to do what he wishes in a second term, and if the Democratic platform is any indication, his "flexibility" is not going to be a good thing for the only democracy in the Middle East, Israel. Comparing the language of the 2008 Democratic Party Platform and the 2012 Democratic Party Platform a key section has been removed.

Below is the section missing from the 2012 document. Pay special attention to the areas in bold:

The United States and its Quartet partners should continue to isolate Hamas until it renounces terrorism, recognizes Israel's right to exist, and abides by past agreements. Sustained American leadership for peace and security will require patient efforts and the personal commitment of the President of the United States. The creation of a Palestinian state through final status negotiations, together with an international compensation mechanism, should resolve the issue of Palestinian refugees by allowing them to settle there, rather than in Israel. All understand that it is unrealistic to expect the outcome of final status negotiations to be a full and complete return to the armistice lines of 1949. Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel. The parties have agreed that Jerusalem is a matter for final status negotiations. It should remain an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths.
As Yid the Lid goes on to explain in detail, each of these items are crucial to Israel and each have been key areas of contention for those who believe this President has not been friendly to the Jewish State.

Update 1: Charles Krauthammer says the Democrats' 'Jerusalem' platform omission and the its omission of 'God' is 'extremely significant' ...

"Platforms don't really tell you what's going to happen," Krauthammer said. "But if you compare today with what people used to believe and used to say and used to proclaim, and you see these glaring changes -- you know that something has changed within the party."

"This is one place where Obama has led from in front and not from behind: moving the party, not just himself. And that I think is extremely politically significant."

Update 2: It's not just the pro-Israel language that's been stripped, the single reference to God in the Democrats' platform has also now been stripped out.

Update 3: Democrats also retreat on civil liberties in 2012 platform.
