Weekly Unemployment Claims Rise
Topics: Political News and commentariesThis week's jobless report puts the number of jobless back on the same track it has been on most of the year, rising 34,000 to to 386,000 which includes the customary upward revision of 2,000:
In the week ending July 14, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 386,000, an increase of 34,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 352,000. The 4-week moving average was 375,500, a decrease of 1,500 from the previous week's revised average of 377,000.Clearly the jobs situation is not getting better, and this is surely unlikely to change under the current occupant of the White House.The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.6 percent for the week ending July 7, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate.
The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending July 7 was 3,314,000, an increase of 1,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 3,313,000. The 4-week moving average was 3,311,750, an increase of 1,000 from the preceding week's revised average of 3,310,750.
