Sen Rand Paul Being Detained By TSA (Updated)

Topics: Political News and commentaries

Update 1:

"My son @SenRandPaul being detained by TSA for refusing full body pat-down after anomaly in body scanner in Nashville. More details coming," tweeted Ron Paul moments ago.

"I spoke with him five minutes ago and he was being detained indefinitely," Paul spokesperson Moira Bagley told Politico. "The image scan went off, he refused patdown."

Noteworthy is the fact that Sen. Paul twice offered to go through the scanner again but the TSA said he could only have a full body pat down, to which he refused.

Could all this be, as Ed Morrissey suggests, have more to do with Senator Paul's ongoing political battle with the TSA? After all, common sense says that a sitting U.S. senator is highly unlikely to be a terror risk.

Update 2: ABC News - Rand Paul's Pat-Down Standoff With TSA in Nashville Ends

Initial post begins here ...

Via this report by Charlie Spiering at Beltway Confidential:

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., son of Republican presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, has been detained by the TSA according to reports.

"Just got a call from @senrandpaul. He's currently being detained by TSA in Nashville." tweeted Sen. Rand Paul's press secretary Moira Bagley.

Sen. Paul was traveling to the March for Life in Washington D.C. to speak to pro-life activists. "Today I'll speak to the March for Life in DC. A nation cannot long endure w/o respect for the right to Life. Our Liberty depends on it," was the last message from Rand Paul's twitter account.

Congressman Ron Paul has confirmed the news, posting on his Facebook page, "My son Rand is currently being detained by the TSA at the Nashville Airport, I'll share more details as the situation unfolds."

We're placing a few calls, and will update you shortly.

More to come, and I'm itching to find out the TSA's excuse. Perhaps they, being part of the Obama administration, just don't like pro-live folks.
