Team Obama 2012 ad: Imagine Where You Would Be Without Him!

Topics: Political News and commentaries

As did Doug Powers over at Hot Air, when I watched this for the first time and saw the "one year from now all the progress could be erased" part of the ad, I thought it was an ad put out by the Republican Party. However, as Powers suggests, with less than one year to go until the elections next November, it's the Obama campaign's way of looking forward to that day by looking back and reminding their current (and former) supporters what an awesome time they were having back in 2008:

I like Powers' suggested new catch-phrase for the Obama campaign: "Are you better off remembering what a great mood you were in when you were convinced that in four years you'd be better off than you were four years ago?"

On the other hand, Jim Geraghty is tempted to ask what "progress" are they talking about?

The 9 percent unemployment? The $3.43 per gallon gas in November? Freddie Mac needing another bailout?

The fact that 5 million U.S. households are either in foreclosure or delinquent on their mortgage, and 11 million homeowners owe more than their homes are worth? The fact that nearly 49 million Americans, almost 15 percent of the U.S., is currently on food stamps?

The angry young people camping in public parks and fighting with police?

Solyndra? Fast and Furious?

So what's Team Obama to do ... Obama can't run on his record so he runs on the record that isn't ... talking about "progress" and "change" without ever trying to make the argument that Americans are indeed better off now than they were four years ago. It's more or less like he did for 2008 when he talked about nebulous "hope and change" and left it to a naive, uninformed (his 'record' and far-left ideology was hidden by his campaign and he liberal media) and "wishful" American public fill in the blanks for themselves.
