PPP: #OWS Makes Voters More Fond of the Tea Party
Topics: Political News and commentariesThe Democratic firm Public Policy Polling has been right on the mark with most of its election surveys this year, and now has a new survey that indicates the Occupy movement is wearing on people. As many conservatves have long expected, myself among them, after two months of Occupiers 'occupying', defiling and destroying public spaces across America, voters are suddenly more fond of tea partiers (they stay within the law and believe in individual accountability) than of the occupiers (they break the law, believe they are 'entitled', and seek a nanny state)). Even better, Tea Party favorables are up ten points from a month ago among independent voters (hat tip - David Freddoso):
The Occupy Wall Street movement is not wearing well with voters across the country. Only 33% now say that they are supportive of its goals, compared to 45% who say they oppose them. That represents an 11 point shift in the wrong direction for the movement's support compared to a month ago when 35% of voters said they supported it and 36% were opposed. Most notably independents have gone from supporting Occupy Wall Street's goals 39/34, to opposing them 34/42.How any rational voter with an iota of common sense could ever support the occupiers or compare them to the Tea Partiers is baffling to me. I'll begin to have far more faith in American voters when I see the 36% that support the OWS goals get down around what Gallop found to be the number of liberals in the country - 20%. Then I'll know that most moderates and conservatives have come to their senses. As for the liberals, they're a lost cause.Voters don't care for the Tea Party either, with 42% saying they support its goals to 45% opposed. But asked whether they have a higher opinion of the Tea Party or Occupy Wall Street movement the Tea Party wins out 43-37, representing a flip from last month when Occupy Wall Street won out 40-37 on that question. Again the movement with independents is notable- from preferring Occupy Wall Street 43-34, to siding with the Tea Party 44-40.
