Kathryn Jean Lopez says she likes this Canadian. After reading the details of Mary Wagner being jailed - again - for doing nothing more than counseling pregnant women to keep their babies, I like her too ... but can't help but wonder how a supposedly free and sane society got to the point where a woman is jailed for simply "talking" about saving a life, but it's perfectly acceptable and legal for another woman to take a life.
Mary could very well be, in years way down the road, headed for sainthood. She's surely saving lives, has already spent three years as a postulant with the Sisters of St. John in the U.S. and France, she maintains her daily devotions, vespers, matins, the Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and in the past, these practices have attracted the participation of other inmates. In the meantime, it also looks as though she'll be spending a lot of time in jail since it appears she has no intentions of giving up the "criminal" act of counseling pregnant women (both in and out of prison) to give their babies life instead of murdering them.
