Despite Warming Alarmists Claims, Data Clearly Shows No Causal Relationship Between CO2 And Temperature
Topics: Global Warming, Political News and commentariesContrary to claims by really stupid climate alarmists like this (and leftist politicians, as well) that would have us believe that the quantity of CO2 in the atmosphere is the sole or primary determinant of changes in global temperatures, nothing could be further from the truth. As is clearly illustrated in the chart below, both the proportion of CO2 in the Earth's atmosphere and the Earth's temperatures have varied widely over the earth's history, with no apparent correlation between the two (based on data from C.R. Scotese and R.A. Berner):
The blue line represents estimates of average global temperature, while the black records the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Late Carboniferous to Early Permian time (315 mya -- 270 mya) is the only time period in the last 600 million years when both atmospheric CO2 and temperatures were as low as they are today (Quaternary Period ). ... To the consternation of global warming proponents, the Late Ordovician Period was also an Ice Age while at the same time CO2 concentrations then were nearly 12 times higher than today -- 4400 ppm. According to greenhouse theory, Earth should have been exceedingly hot. Instead, global temperatures were no warmer than today. Clearly, other factors besides atmospheric carbon influence earth temperatures and global warming.If CO2 levels were to go much lower than they already are, it's likely that photosynthesis could begin to shut down which would lead to the earth's biological food chain being terminally broken. .
As John Hinderaker points out over at Powerline, the idea that CO2 operates as a kind of thermostat, so that by impoverishing ourselves we can cool down the planet, is so silly that it is remarkable that so many have been duped into believing it.
