Want To Be Healthy? Eat More ChocolateTopics: Health Issues
That's according to a recent meta-analysis as reported in medpageToday:
In six studies, people who ate the most chocolate -- about two pieces of chocolate per week -- had a 37% lower risk of any cardiovascular disease compared with those who ate less (RR 0.63, 95% CI 0.44 to 0.90), according to Oscar Franco, MD, PhD, of the University of Cambridge in England.Read the whole thing here, and keep in mind the study was a meta-analysis and that correlation does not necessarily imply causation. On the other hand, if you've been craving for an excuse to eat more chocolate, this will give you something to build on as long as you avoid reading about this double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized study.
And in three studies, those who consumed the most had a 29% lower risk of stroke (RR 0.71, 95% CI 0.52 to 0.98), he reported at the European Society of Cardiology meeting here. The findings were published simultaneously online in BMJ.
