Quinnipiac University Poll: Rick Perry tops GOP poll, but Mitt Romney has edge against Obama
Topics: Political News and commentariesThis is why I tell people that although I like Perry more than Romney ... if Romney isn't who the GOP nominates to face Obama in 2012 ... we're more likely to end up with 4 more years of Obama. Unfortunately, Romney is likely to pick up the necessary independents, Perry isn't:
[...] While Perry leads the Republican field, Romney seems to pose a stronger challenge to Obama in a general election, according to the Quinnipiac poll of all voters. Romney and Obama each would win about 47% but Obama runs ahead of Perry 45% to 42%. Obama comfortably leads Bachmann 48% to39% and Palin 51% to 37%.More here. Both Romney and Obama run well among voters within their own party, but Romney has a 46% to 40% lead among independents, according to the poll. Men lean toward Romney, 47% to 43%, while women lean to Obama, 46% to 43%.
The opinions of a variety of people of differing backgrounds that I've spoken with about the match-ups parallel the results of the poll. For example, I have several Jewish and Muslim friends that voted for Obama that have told me that given a choice between Perry and Obama they'll vote for Obama. On the other hand, given a choice between Romney and Obama, they'll vote for Romney.
Again, I actually like Perry more than Romney ... but if it means giving Obama 4 more years to destroy what's left of America after his first 4 ... I'll be supporting Romney.
