The Dalai Lama A "Marxist"?

Topics: Human Interest, Political News and commentaries, Religion

Well, that is all the world needed! First we have an American president, and supposed "Leader of the Free World", that - for all he may deny it - is, for all practical intents and purposes, a Marxist ideologue.

Now turns out that his holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, spiritual leader to billions of Buddhists around the world, and exiled titular head of state of Tibet, claims that he is also a "Marxist"!

The Dalai Lama a "Marxist"? Richard Gere must be thrilled to find out that his "Spiritual Mentor" not only guides his path to "Spiritual Enlightenment", but also happens to share his "Hollywood" political views!

According to an article on Townhall.com of June 11, 2011, by conservative columnist, and Townhall news editor, Katie Pavlich, titled: "Excellent: Dalai Lama Says He's a Marxist", his excellency, the Dalai Lama, during a speech at the University of Minnesota this month, before 150 Chinese students - of all people - claimed that he's a Marxist. I wonder if Pope Benedict and other world religious leaders are soon to follow...

In her piece in Townhall.com, Miss Pavlich writes:

"There is no better way to proclaim your lack of spiritual and philosophical depth than by, two decades after the fall of communism, disclosing that you're a Marxist. Yet this is precisely what Buddhist spiritual leader the Dalai Lama did during a speech before 150 Chinese students at the University of Minnesota this month. Journalist Tsering Namgyal reports on the story at Religion Dispatches, writing, ' 'as far as socio-political beliefs are concerned, I consider myself a Marxist. But not a Leninist,' he [the Lama] clarified.' "

"Well, that's a relief. Those Leninists can really kill ya'. Marxists will just murder you."

"It is no surprise this declaration was made at an American university where Marxism is alive and well".

May I add, not to mention in the White House!

"A Marxist. But not a Leninist"? Whoop Dee Doo! Vive La Difference! Like Miss Pavlich so poignantly points out, "Those Leninists can really kill'ya", but Marxists? Oh, they are just perfectly alright....just look at all them harmless ones in the present Administration and the White House, driving our economy off a cliff, and our nation into decline.

According to Selwyn Duke, of "American Thinker", who also covered the story, this is not the first time his holiness the Dalai Lama has shown us the "Red" streak under his saffron yellow robes:

"This isn't the first time the Lama indicated that his soul is as red as the robes he wears. During a lecture in NYC on May 19, the Tibetan leader credited 'capitalism' with bringing new freedoms to China but then said, 'Still I am a Marxist'; he then explained that Marxism has 'moral ethics, whereas capitalism is only how to make profits.' "
Duke goes on to sarcastically evaluate:
"That's some deep thinking right there."
I wonder if what the Dalai Lama, the supposed incarnation of the merciful "Bodhisattva of Compassion", finds so "morally ethical" about "Marxism" is the untold hundreds of millions that have been enslaved, starved, tortured, and... butchered in the name of "Marxism", such as by Mao (approximately 67 to 72 million Chinese, and 800,000 to 1.2 million Tibetans), Stalin (approximately 56 to 62 million), those killed behind the "Iron Curtain" in the Soviet dominated nations of the Eastern Block (approximately 7.2 to 8 million), by the Viet Cong and the North Vietnamese (approximately 3.6 to 3.8 million), in Cambodia by Pol Pot and the Khemer Rouge (1 to 1.2 million), by Kim Il-Sung and his son Kim Jong-Il in North Korea (approximately 1.6 to 2 million), and by Fidel Castro in Cuba (approximately 100,000 to 141,000)!

Maybe that is what his holiness likes about Marxism, the way it has helped millions of people achieve no-self, away from the material "distractions" of the world....forgotten, rotting away in a Marxist prison; or how it has helped millions attain "Nirvana"... by Genocide! Talk about "compassionate"!

The 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, was born Lhamo Dhondup, on the 6th of July 1935, to a farming family, in a small hamlet located in Taktser, Amdo, northeastern Tibet. According to Tibetan Buddhist beliefs and practices, the child, at the age of two, was recognized as the living reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama, Thubten Gyatso, and the earthly manifestation of Avalokiteshvara - the Bodhisattva of Compassion and patron saint of Tibet. In Buddhism, Bodhisattvas are enlightened beings who have postponed their own nirvana and chosen to take rebirth in order to serve humanity.

The Dalai Lama has been living in exile in his posh Dalai Lama Temple residence, in Dharamsala, India, since 1959, where he was forced into exile, after the Chinese invasion of Tibet in the 50's.

Personally, and with all due respect to his holiness the Dalai Lama, I find it disingenuous of him to boast - to none other than a Chinese audience - about his being a "Marxist", when what prompted the Chinese invasion and take-over of Tibet in the first place, that sent him into exile, was precisely the aggressive Marxist expansionism of Chairman Mao!

Mind you, I don't begrudge the Dalai Lama that, though he is the spiritual leader of billions of people on the planet, yet, he would consider himself a godless "Marxist" - after all Buddhism is notorious for being "A Way to Enlightenment" rather than "Deistic".

But if that be the case, why doesn't the Dalai Lama then behave like the good little Marxist he claims to be, dons his "Cultural Revolution Red Starred-Cap and Mao Suit", grabs a "Little Red Book" in place of his Tibetan "Prayer Beads", goes back to "Chinese dominated Tibet", submits to the Marxist Chinese communist, and goes clean the latrines at his former residence, the Potala Palace, in Lhasa? I mean, you know, since he's a "Marxist", instead of living in relative luxury and comfort in exile, in India, while being supported by the donations of those multitudes of dirt-poor, "downtrodden", Buddhists faithful he is "opiating" and "exploiting" with religion - according to the Marxism he now claims to believe in - that flock to him; even as he "Jet-Sets" in First Class, trotting around the world, meeting world leaders, celebrities, and movie stars; while wearing a nice solid gold Rolex watch on his wrist? Wouldn't you say his behavior is not "Marxist" at all, for all that he protests to be such a good Marxist?

If the Dalai Lama is indeed a Marxist, then he should "put his money where his mouth is", live according to austere Marxist principles, stop exploiting the Buddhist faithful he leeches as a priestly "Bourgeois", and stop all of his "Free Tibet" (with ten dollar purchase) "Dalai Lama Celebrity Tour" self promotion!
