Jobless Claims

Ed Morrissey notes the Department of Labor's report shows the number of initial jobless claims remained in the 420K range for the eighth week in a row.

Time for our president to hire a new economic team. And while he's at it, change that motto.

And while we're on the topic of our president and his economic prowess (rather the lack of it), that Restaurant in Ohio that got the big shout out from the president as one of his "success stories" of the stimulus - is going out of business Sunday after a more than 70-year history.

As Doug Powers points out, the moral of this story is "If the administration approaches you and wants to use you or your business as an example of how massive government spending has saved the economy, politely decline the offer, go home for the day and come back when the coast is clear."

In other words, when it comes to the economy ... at the very least, everything this administration touches turns to crap. And as bad as it is now, veteran (and often right on target) economist Robert Shiller says that recent housing and employment data suggests the U.S. economy is at a tipping point where a double-dip recession is possible and home prices could have much further to fall.
