Treasury Secretary Geithner on Debt Ceiling: 'No Biggy, We'll Just Raid Federal Pension Funds'!
Topics: Political News and commentariesOnly a few days ago we learned that Ireland planned to raid pensions because at the direction of euro-zone leaders, its last government put the state's finances in a such a big hole with bank guarantees and bailouts designed to protect foreign creditors. They could've just stopped spending more than they took in ... that would've been the smart thing to do. Instead, one could say that, borrowing from one of Obama's pet phrases, they "acted stupidly".
Here at home, the Obama administration's spending and debt increases have put us in similar shape, but we're not like Ireland, right? We're smarter. Our government is more responsible, right?
