Liberal-progressive's fossil-fuel-free world: Farming With Oxen

Ah, the joy of food production in a fossil-fuel-free world - farming with oxen, brought to you by your local friendly liberal-progressive environut.

What's old is new again in rural Virginia, where a new environmental education center is inviting the public to take a look at farming in what it calls the post-fossil-fuel world.Hmmm...; so they want us to go back to oxen, after our having evolved from oxen in the first place to horses, and then tractors. Something tells me that there's just not enough oxen in the entire country to produce enough food to feed the U.S. population of 311,326,291, much less make much of a contribution to the needs of the rest of the world's population of 6,917,548,070 (as of May 10, 2011). But like most liberal-progressive enviro-idealists, they simply love the idea of living in a fossil-fuel-free, socialist, touchy-feely, utopia, even though it's a bunch of impractical poppycock.The 127-acre Living Energy Farm in Louisa County will show that "it is possible to live a healthy, joyful life without the use of any fossil fuel," project organizers say.
They hope to set an example while actively promoting a lifestyle and technologies that are "truly sustainable" and available to all people, regardless of income or social position. The lifestyle includes cooperative housing and income-sharing.
On Friday, May 13, the Living Energy Farm will hold an open house to explain its mix of "very old and very new technologies."
Using oxen as draft animals is part of the farm's zero-fossil-fuel formula. The farm also plans to offer a workshop for "anyone interested in learning how to train their own oxen," the news release said.
I suggest that they instead switch to a Deere ... as in a John Deere, and stop living in a fantasy world.
