Re: 'Dearborn Suspends the First Amendment'Topics: Political News and commentaries, Understanding Islam
Both of these actions -- the permit denial and an injunction, if the court grants it -- violate the First Amendment. This is a heckler's veto. Dearborn and the county prosecutor aren't saying that Jones will commit any violence. Rather, they expect that the Muslims in Dearborn will be simply unable to control themselves in the face of religious criticism and start a riot. While some may find Sobieskey's piece perhaps a bit alarmist, nonetheless one cannot deny that our liberties and freedoms have been and are increasingly more threatened by Islam and the politically-correct response to Muslim sensitivities (and fear of Muslim rage and violence) on the part of our politicians and government officials.
