Florida pastor who oversaw the burning of a Koran says Afghan U.N. violence 'proves his point' (Updated)

Topics: Political News and commentaries

ABC News reports that Terry Jones, the Florida pastor who oversaw the burning of a Koran last month, said he did not feel responsible for the violent protest at a United Nations compound in Afghanistan today that left at least 11 dead. Instead, he said the violence proved his point.

Whether one agrees with Jone's burning of the Koran, or not ... he's 100% correct about it proving his point, although the point didn't really need to be made and being right about Muslims' reaction to his burning of the Koran doesn't necessarily mean he should have done it - nothing was really accomplished by it. The Afghan Muslim's slaughter of innocents proves his point by their doing exactly what was expected of them. Unfortunately and tragically, people died in the process. Incited by Afghan President Karzai and the sermons at Friday prayers, the Muslims in Afghanistan reacted violently, murdered people, and chopped off their heads because that's what Muslim extremists do. But Jones didn't write the Koran and Jones doesn't issue fatwas; the Koran is based on what a man named Mohammad preached ... a man who lied, pillaged, murdered, and condoned rape and the murder of infidels.

On the other hand, as we've noted previously, Muslims burn bibles routinely and often ... yet the last time you heard of Christians murdering people over it was ... never! One could also add that the last time you heard of a Jew murdering people over the burning of a Torah was also never. Islam is rather unique in that respect because ... well, that's just Muslims being Muslims.

As John Hinderaker notes at Powerline, it is impossible to imagine adherents of any other religion being whipped into a murderous frenzy by a religious service. What the U.N. employees and their guards--there to protect them from Islamic "extremists" -- had to do with Terry Jones is anyone's guess:

[...] Can Islam coexist in a diverse world? It has done so in recent centuries, of course, but it is beginning to appear that this period of accommodation may have been an aberration caused by the extreme weakness of Islamic countries and the relative lack of interaction between Islamic and non-Islamic cultures. Whether coexistence is still possible under modern conditions is a question that does not yet have an answer.
In the meanwhile ... that is, between now and the time the West finally realizes that the answer to that question is a resounding 'no, Islam and the modern world are not compatible' ... I favor Ace's proposed solution: "The proper thing is to burn ten Korans for each casualty inflicted by Muslim murderers."
