New Poll: 64% of Registered Voters Against Public Sector Unions
Topics: Political News and commentariesPolitico reports that a new a national survey of 1,001 registered voters by the Washington-based Clarus Group asked:
Do you think government employees should be represented by labor unions that bargain for higher pay, benefits and pensions ... or do you think government employees should not be represented by labor unions? And according to Politico:
A full 64% of the respondents said "no."So it seems that one could justifiably say that Obama, the DNC, and Obama's campaign arm - OFA ... are clearly on the opposite side of public opinion. Yet the mess in Wisconsin is exactly what Obama wants. That includes 42% of Democrats, and an overwhelming majority of Republicans. Only 49% of Democrats think public workers should be in unions at all.
That's on the fundamental right to organize, before you get to wages and benefits. And that puts Scott Walker in a pretty good political place.
I'd like to see the poll results of likely voters being asked the same questions. My guess is that the percentage saying no would be much higher.
