Fort Hood Jihadist Ruled Devout ... Not Deranged

Topics: Political News and commentaries, Understanding Islam

The Fort Hood jihadist, Major Nidal Hasan, charged with killing 13 people in a shooting spree at Ft. Hood Army base, has been ruled sane. In other words, it's not insanity to blame, the problem is Islam: Alleged Fort Hood shooter ruled 'sane':

KILLEEN, Texas -- The US Army psychiatrist charged with killing 13 people in a shooting spree on a Texas army base has been ruled sane and thus fit for trial, a source familiar with the case said.

The ruling by a group of medical experts, called a sanity board, opens the door for a court martial that could end in the execution of Major Nidal Hasan, who was paralyzed from the neck down during the November 5, 2009 massacre.

Neither prosecutors nor retired Army Colonel John Galligan, a veteran military lawyer representing Hasan, 40, would confirm the board's decision.

But Galligan suggested it went against his client, who worked at Fort Hood until the shooting.

"I'm not going to say what they ruled," he told AFP. "I would just say this: I don't think the report will be anything that will be an impediment to the charges from the government's perspective.'

Hasan is charged with killing 13 people and wounding 32 others in a crowded Fort Hood deployment center.

Witnesses at an evidentiary hearing last year fingered Hasan as a ruthless murderer who cried out "Allahu akbar!" before gunning down troops and civilians alike.

This should have been a no-brainer all along. As Raymond Ibrahim noted back in October 2010 at Pajamas Media, the one incontrovertible problem lies within Islam itself ... and the ultimate problem is offensive jihad -- and that's entirely Islam's problem and has nothing to do with U.S. support for Israel and other grievances, or even Islam's lack of freedoms and equality.
... offensive jihad is part and parcel of Islam; it is no less codified than, say, Islam's Five Pillars, which no Muslim rejects. The Encyclopaedia of Islam's entry for "jihad" states that the "spread of Islam by arms is a religious duty upon Muslims in general. ... Jihad must continue to be done until the whole world is under the rule of Islam. ... Islam must completely be made over before the doctrine of jihad can be eliminated." Scholar Majid Khadduri (1909-2007), after defining jihad as warfare, writes that jihad "is regarded by all jurists, with almost no exception, as a collective obligation of the whole Muslim community."

Even that chronic complainer Osama bin Laden makes it clear that offensive jihad is the root problem: "Our talks with the infidel West and our conflict with them ultimately revolve around one issue ... and it is: Does Islam, or does it not, force people by the power of the sword to submit to its authority corporeally if not spiritually? Yes. There are only three choices in Islam ... . Either submit, or live under the suzerainty of Islam, or die."

Clearly, then, it is in the Muslim world's interest to keep the West ignorant of the fact that, irrespective of all Muslim grievances -- real or feigned -- nothing less than Islamic law itself mandates a state of constant hostility. Indeed, if the implications of offensive jihad were fully embraced, humanity might be compelled to view the Muslim world as a perpetual, existentialist threat, in need of preemptive containment. That said, and considering the willful ignorance of the West's political elite -- who are guided less by objective facts and more by their "feel-good" ideals -- Muslim talk of offensive jihad, no matter how loud or frequent, will likely continue to fall on deaf ears.

One would think that that's sufficiently clear for even liberals to understand. The jihadists are not crazy, they're Islamists ... and therein lies the problem. Unfortunately, the "political elites" Ibrahim speaks of, which includes most of our media and many of our political leaders, are not anywhere close to 'getting it' ... and thereby are putting all of us, along with our entire Western culture, in great danger.
