Video: Democrat Rep Keith Ellison Reveils Progressive Vision of Borderless U.S. - 'God Willing ... Border Will Become an Irrelevancy'

Topics: Political News and commentaries

In this clip (via The Blaze) from a June 2010 speech to the Network of Spiritual Progressives Conference, Democrat Rep. Keith Ellison suggests that military strength doesn't make for safe borders, but that policies of "equity, generosity, and engagemen" provide security:

"... we are a country guided by ideals of equity, generosity and engagement in our relations with other nations and those philosophical ideals create safe borders ... and God willing one day the border will become an irrelevancy"
As Ed Morrissey points out over at Hot Air, calling military strength irrelevant to border security in this world is nothing short of breathtakingly stupid.
The US has a long record of "equity, generosity, and engagement" in its foreign policy, all of which would mean squat to anyone wanting to attack us. Because of our strength, we have faced off against monstrous opponents, such as Nazi Germany, imperial Japan, and the Soviet Union, all of whom conducted genocidal policies on peoples and countries who just wanted "engagement" instead of conquerors, and even on their own people (as did China) by the millions. Had we not had that military strength for both ourselves and our allies, this world would be a much more evil and desolate place.
