Nightmare called 'DREAM Act' appears Dead

Via Fox News: Senate Punts on DREAM Act Vote.

The Senate on Thursday punted on a DREAM Act vote after Democrats failed to advance a version that passed the House Wednesday night.

Senate Democrats hope to vote on the House-passed legislation before the lame-duck session ends this month.

"We still hope to consider it before we leave," a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told Fox News.

Earlier, Reid tried to shelve a procedural vote on the legislation that would carve out a path to legalization for hundreds of thousands of foreign-born youngsters brought to this country illegally because he said it would be more appropriate to take up the version that cleared the House.

But Republicans refused to let him to do that. So Reid had the Senate vote on killing a motion to start debate on the bill.

CNN's view appears even more pessimistic: DREAM Act in danger after Senate Dems pull it from consideration.
Senate Democrats conceded Thursday they don't have the votes to pass the DREAM Act, a bill that would have offered a path to citizenship for some illegal immigrants who entered the United States as children.

Democrats voted to pull the measure from consideration on Thursday. That likely kills any chance of passage this year for the hotly contested bill, Senate supporters say.

Senate Republicans opposed the bill, standing by their pledge to block any legislation during the lame duck session until the chamber approves bills to extend the Bush tax cuts and fund the government.

As we've previously pointed out, the misnamed DREAM Act may be a dream for illegal aliens, but it's a nightmare for Americans.

No mention so far about the Mexican government taking care of their own citizens and their children instead of having American taxpayers take care of them.
