Democratic Senator Jay Rockefeller (WV): FCC Should Take FOX News and MSNBC Off the Air (Video)
Topics: Political News and commentariesWhile the Obama Administration continues its forced gropings of our junk at airports, Democratic Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) gives us a sobering clue as to what Democrats think about our freedoms and rights under American law, by saying he believes it is time to take FOX News and MSNBC off the air. But as Jim Hoft quips, please don't question their totalitarianism.
Rockefeller:
"There's a little bug inside of me which wants to get the FCC to say to FOX and to MSNBC: "Out. Off. End. Goodbye." It would be a big favor to political discourse; our ability to do our work here in Congress, and to the American people, to be able to talk with each other and have some faith in their government and more importantly, in their future."One can only gather from Mr. Rockefeller's comment that he would rather the American people hear only what the government (one controlled by Democrats) deems that the American people should hear. And indeed, considering Rockefeller is a Keith Olbermann fan (hat tip - Jim Hoft), we can assume he's really just talking about FOX News here.
On the other hand, as Doug Mataconis points out, Rockeller's rant was rather pointless because the FCC has no authority to do anything about either Fox or MSNBC (although given the Dems' abuse of power - it would surprise no one if they ignored such lack of authority):
There is little the Federal Communications Commission can say about Fox News or MSNBC since the channels are on cable, not delivered over the broadcast airwavesNot to mention this little part of American law:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.Memo to Rockefeller: it's not the government's job or right to tell the American people what to watch or what news and commentary they are allowed to here, in spite of how the Democrats would like to have it.
