Reality Check For Axelrod
Topics: Political News and commentariesFrom Daniel Halper over at TWS:
David Axelrod, the president's chief spin master:So, is it spin, willful blindness, or both? Likely both. Wasn't Axelrod talking back in September about how eager he was for the midterm elections. How could a so-called expert "political strategist" be so far off the mark? Perhaps a better explanation for Axelrod's distance from reality is that like all the other delusional liberal elites he's still in denial over Obama's crumbling presidency and its effect on Democrats' chances on November 2nd.In the stuff that I've seen, we've narrowed that gap. On the ground, we've narrowed that gap. And I think that we've narrowed it in places where we need to narrow it by focusing our efforts in some of the most contested places ... [T]here is a Democratic President and there is a Democratic Congress now and it's easy to be complacent. I think it's almost natural ... [Y]ou've got a lot of folks who participated in 2008 who aren't used to participating in off-year elections, and so the makeup of the off-year electorate is somewhat different. And thatÃ's something that w've been combating from the beginning.Greg Sargent, liberal blogger at the Washington Post:The new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll came out this morning, and there's no sugar-coating it: The poll has some very grim results for Democrats. In the 92 most competitive House districts, the GOP's lead among registered voters is 14 points. But what may be even worse are the numbers that show how bad the "enthusiasm gap" remains, with less than two weeks until election day.
NBC sends over a partisan breakdown of the two questions designed to measure voter enthusiasm, and the results are striking: The GOP leads Dems by at least 20 points on both of them.
