Lisa Murkowski to stations: Don't air tea party ad
Topics: Political News and commentariesActing more and more like a Democrat as each day passes, now Lisa Murkowski is telling warning Alaska broadcasters not to air ads by a national tea party group that the campaign claims are "littered with lies and intentional mischaracterizations" about her and her write-in campaign. In other words, she can't stand the truth and ads like this (hat tip - Steve Gilbert):
From an obviously supportive AP:
Murkowski to stations: Don't air tea party adIt seems that Murkowski believes that ads supporting her opponent should be approved by her before they can be aired. Yeah, right. Good luck with that, Murkowski. America hasn't yet been completely 'Obamanated' yet - we're still a free country and our freedoms can't be controlled by politicians like Murkowski - yet.
By Becky BohrerJUNEAU, Alaska -- U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski's campaign is warning Alaska broadcasters not to air ads by a national tea party group that the campaign says are "littered with lies and intentional mischaracterizations" about her and her write-in campaign.
Attorney Timothy McKeever, in a letter to broadcasters Monday, said they are under a "legal and moral obligation" not to air the new ads from Tea Party Express, which is supporting Joe Miller, the political upstart who defeated Murkowski in the August GOP primary.
A Tea Party Express spokesman said his initial reaction is that the group stands behind the ads.
At issue is an ad the group unveiled Monday, entitled "Arrogant Lisa Murkowski -- You Lost!" It seeks to paint Murkowski as more interested in political self-preservation than in serving the interests of Alaskans. It also claims she didn't "earn" her Senate seat and that she "tried to manipulate the Libertarian party into giving her their slot" on the ballot -- claims McKeever called "materially false."
Murkowski was appointed to the seat her father held when he became governor in 2002; she won it in her own right in 2004.
As Slublog notes over at Ace of Spades:
This isn't just about Lisa Murkiwscoo and her sad bid to hold onto her senate seat. It's about something more fundamental - reminding politicians of the source of their power and who has the right, and sometimes the responsibility, to take it away from them. Lisa Murkooski has forgotten, or doesn't care, that in this country the power of government is derived from the people. When she agreed to be the GOP senator from Alaska, she knew the possibility existed that primary voters had the power to choose another to represent them in an election. Murkyspkis's refusal to submit to that agreement, and the will of the voters, shows a disdain not only for the process, but ultimately for the source of her power - the voters. Such arrogance should not be rewarded and it is for that reason I hope she soundly loses on November 2.Clearly, this story goes to show just how important it is that we vote people like her out on November 2nd..
