The thesis is simple, and makes sense: WFB's default candidate selection process for National Review was always to support, in any race, the most conservative candidate who can win.Read it all here ...And Bill Buckley was wrong.
As Di Leo goes on to make abundantly clear, compromise should only be one of the tools in our toolbox, nothing more... but for far too long, for too many in the GOP, compromise has been a sacrament. We need to get our priorities in order, and this amazing year of economic upheaval, energized activists, and engaged electorate is just the year to do it.
For our take-home message, we need only look to William A. Jacobson at Legal Insurrection, who reminds us that the primaries are now over and to forget the Buckley Rule - The Lomabardi Rule is now in effect:
