Rasmussen Survey: Mass mortgage forgiveness deeply unpopular - and more so among homeowners
Topics: Political News and commentariesAfter rumors arose last week of the Obama administration's "Hail Mary plan" to forgive portions of the principal in underwater mortgages at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Rasmussen decided to poll on the supposed "August Surprise" to see whether it would sway voters into supporting Obama.
The results don't look good for the White House.
So clearly, Obama's political calculation that the number of grateful Americans would be greater than those offended that they -- and their children and their grandchildren -- would be paying for someone else's mortgage woes, is not only a dumb idea for the economic health of the country, but also politically. From the common sense standpoint, I can't think of anyone, other than the Obami, that would even dream up such a thing in the first place.
