Afghanistan's Ambassador To Obama: 'Hey, This TimelIne Thing Really Sucks'
Topics: Afghanistan, Political News and commentariesAlthough not exactly his words, nonetheless what Said Jawad, Afghanistan's Ambassador to the U.S., has publicly come out and said about the July 2011 timeline to begin withdrawing forces from the war-torn country, means the same thing. Obama's asinine timeline sends all of the wrong messages to the Afghan people, the Taliban, and all other regional players.
And as the Wall Street Journal points out, Jawad's statement is the first time a senior Afghan official has publicly come out against the withdrawal timeline:
Afghanistan's ambassador to Washington said that the Obama administration's decision to announce it would begin withdrawing troops from his country in July 2011 could actually make the U.S.-led war effort more difficult. This is exactly what Republicans have been saying all along - as the WSJ goes on to point out:Speaking Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union," Amb. Said Jawad said that the declared deadline sent the wrong message to the Taliban and the U.S. should instead commit publicly that it will remain in Afghanistan "to finish the job."
"If you overemphasize a deadline that is not realistic, you are making the enemy a lot more bold," Jawad said. "You are prolonging the war."
Jawad's comments are the first by a senior Afghan official to publicly question Obama's decision to mark a firm date for withdrawals.
... Jawad appeared to agree with Republican critics, saying it has raised questions about whether the U.S. is fully committed to winning the war. "If that's not the feeling, we lose the support of the Afghan people and also make the neighboring countries who have an interest a lot more bolder to interfere in Afghanistan," ...Jawad's statement rings of common sense and sound strategy. Obama has allowed his perceived need to appease the Left to influence our war strategy, and is unnecessarily causing more American lives to be lost in the process. Add to this the fact that it is severely affecting our ability to win this war and what we have is a Commander-in-Chief that is clearly putting domestic politics ahead of the security of the United States.
