Ahmadinejad Rejects All Nuclear Talks Until August to 'Punish' West Over SanctionsTopics: Iran, Political News and commentaries
Barack Obama's outstretched hand to Iran hasn't worked, and neither are his heavily watered down sanctions. Now, Ahmadinejad is rejecting all nuclear talks with the West until August, which any fool knows is yet another maneuver by Iran to stall for time in order to complete its development of nuclear weapons.
As Amil Taheri wrote about Obama's Iran strategy back in September 09, the view from Tehran is that Mr. Obama has already accepted Iran's nuclear program as fait accompli. Obama's outstretched hand has done nothing more than encourage Iran's quest for the bomb.Tehran's take on Obama's talk and sanctions hasn't changed since then, and watered down sanctions do little more than encourage the Islamic regime to continue its nuclear weapon program.
Unless and until the military option is put at the forefront of our Iran strategy, or unless Israel decides to act, we are standing at the cusp of a nuclear-armed Iran and a much more dangerous world.
Clearly, the administration's "smart power" has failed, the sanctions are far too weak, and time is rapidly running out. CIA Director Leon Panetta said yesterday the CIA believes that Iran has enough low-enriched uranium for two weapons," but would need two years to prepare two launch-ready nuclear weapons. But what if he's wrong? The CIA has been wrong before. Essentially, we're betting our lives that they're right - this time.
