Obama's Katrina Moment?

Topics: Political News and commentaries

As the Gulf Coast deals with one of the biggest oil disasters in history, President Barack Obama used his weekly address to push for campaign finance reform - putting politics over disaster.

As NewsBusters suggests, if this isn't a Katrina moment, what is!

After all, the president did in fact wait eight days to elevate the disaster to the level of nation emergency level. And even the Obama-loving New York Times determined that "a review of the response suggests it may be too simplistic to place all the blame for the unfolding environmental catastrophe on the oil company. The federal government also had opportunities to move more quickly, but did not do so while it waited for a resolution to the spreading spill from BP."

Is the gulf oil spill disaster Obama's Katrina? Not yet, perhaps. But as the days go by and the full details unfold, it's likely to be so.
