Alert: Craig Becker Goes Down (Scott Brown Voted NO!)
Topics: Political News and commentariesVia Daniel Foster at the Corner:
The nomination of Craig Becker to the National Labor Relations Board was just defeated on a cloture vote 52-33. Sen. Ben Nelson (D., Neb.), Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D., Ark.), and Sen. Scott Brown (R., Mass.) all voted against cloture. And in an update, we learn that Senator Brown said of his "no" vote on Becker, "Craig Becker's theories about how the workplace should function, if ever put into practice, would impose new burdens on employers, hurt job creation and slow down the recovery."
The Politico story of the Senate stopping big-labor lawyer Craig Becker's nomination for a seat on the National Labor Relations Board by a 52-33 vote is here.
As Politico points out, Becker had come under fire earlier this month in his confirmation hearings for making statements many in the GOP considered too strongly aligned with union interests. The opposition to Becker's seating on the NLRB also is tied into larger Republican opposition to the Employees Freedom of Choice Act (EFCA)--a bill that would make it easier for employees to unionize, and which has come to a standstill in the Senate in the face of GOP criticism.
