Rasmussen the Pollster Democrats Least Want to Hear from (Yet the Most Accurate)

Topics: Political News and commentaries

Politico reports today that Democrats are turning their fire on Scott Rasmussen because of a hardening conventional wisdom among prominent liberal bloggers and many Democrats that Rasmussen Reports polls are, at best, the result of a flawed polling model and, at worst, designed to undermine Democratic politicians and the party's national agenda. Apparently, the Democrats and their left-wing, liberal-progressive, supporters prefer to hear from pollsters like Gallop, which usually give Obama and the Dems about a 5 point higher read than Rasmussen.

Yet the idea that the problem lies with the Democrats' and Obama's national agenda, not the pollster, seems to elude the Dems, and when it comes to accuracy, one need only look at the results of the 2008 predictions for the 2008 elections to see that Rasmussen led all other pollsters (Gallop was 17th). They are shooting at the messenger, and the messenger is not the problem, the Democrats agenda is what the American public is rejecting.

Interestingly, yesterday's polling results give the Democrats and their left-wing, liberal-progressive, supporters more to scream about. Rasmussen's poll for January 2 shows that overall, 46% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President's performance. Fifty-three percent (53%) disapprove. His "passion index" shows that 24% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-two percent (42%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -18.

As for Gallop's results? You guessed it. Yesterday's polling shows Obama's approval at 51%.

There's a take-home message for the Obambi, shooting at the messenger isn't the answer. Clearly, the American voters have seen what you're selling, and they want none of it. It's the agenda, stupids - not Rasmussen.
