Mort Zuckerman: Obama and congressional Democrats still don't get it
Topics: Political News and commentariesI posted on Mort Zuckerman's thorough trashing of Obama's policies and agenda, two days ago, but have been pondering on posting on it again since it's becoming more and more evident that Obama and the Democrats are misreading their thundering defeat in Massachusetts, just like they misread the American people when Barack Obama was elected - mistakenly believing that America was willing to move dramatically to the left. However, after noticing Dan Riehl posting today on Zuckerman's new must-read article in U.S. News and World Report, I'm going ahead with our re-posting on Zuckerman's first piece because it is so dead-on target and does it in a nutshell - before pointing to his new, more lengthy, article - in the highly unlikely chance Democrats will finally catch on and encourage their politicians to move away from their far-left agenda which is being so soundly rejected by the majority of American voters.
From Mort Zuckerman's piece in the Daily Beast on January 19, titled He's Done Everything Wrong (emphasis mine):
Obama punted on the economy and reversed the fortunes of the Democrats in 365 days. After reading all of the above-linked article, take the time to read Zuckerman's U.S. News and World Report must-read piece titled The Incredible Deflation of Barack Obama, for Zuckerman's more extensive take on Obama's mis-steps.He's misjudged the character of the country in his whole approach.
There's the saying, "It's the economy, stupid." He didn't get it. He was determined somehow or other to adopt a whole new agenda. He didn't address the main issue. This health-care plan is going to be a fiscal disaster for the country. Most of the country wanted to deal with costs, not expansion of coverage. This is going to raise costs dramatically.
In the campaign, he said he would change politics as usual. He did change them. It's now worse than it was. I've now seen the kind of buying off of politicians that I've never seen before. It's politically corrupt and it's starting at the top. It's revolting. (Read it all)
