Rasmussen: 54/42 Against Pelosi-care

Topics: Political News and commentaries

Up three points since last week, 54% now oppose the the House version of health care reform, 42% approve:

[...] Only 23% of all voters Strongly Support the plan while nearly twice as man (44%) are Strongly Opposed.

As has been the case for months, Democrats favor the plan while Republicans and voters not affiliated with either major party are opposed. The latest numbers show support from 69% of those in the president's party. The plan is opposed by 80% of Republicans and a plurality (48%) of unaffiliated voters.

[...] Fifty-five percent (55%) say passage of the plan would increase the cost of health care, and 52% say it would hurt the quality of care. Just 23% say it would reduce costs while 27% believe it would improve quality.

Notice that this is after Pelosi introduced her version of the House bill. It seems that the more Americans learn about what the Dems have planned for America's health care, the less Americans are willing to support it.

And they're less willing to support it - for very good reasons. As the WSJ points out, it's The Worst Bill Ever - with epic new spending and taxes, pricier insurance, rationed care, dishonest accounting - the Pelosi health bill has it all:

[...] Speaker Nancy Pelosi has reportedly told fellow Democrats that she's prepared to lose seats in 2010 if that's what it takes to pass ObamaCare, and little wonder. The health bill she unwrapped last Thursday, which President Obama hailed as a "critical milestone," may well be the worst piece of post-New Deal legislation ever introduced.

In a rational political world, this 1,990-page runaway train would have been derailed months ago. With spending and debt already at record peacetime levels, the bill creates a new and probably unrepealable middle-class entitlement that is designed to expand over time. Taxes will need to rise precipitously, even as ObamaCare so dramatically expands government control of health care that eventually all medicine will be rationed via politics.

Yet at this point, Democrats have dumped any pretense of genuine bipartisan "reform" and moved into the realm of pure power politics as they race against the unpopularity of their own agenda. The goal is to ram through whatever income-redistribution scheme they can claim to be "universal coverage." The result will be destructive on every level--for the health-care system, for the country's fiscal condition, and ultimately for American freedom and prosperity.

Readers would do well to take the time to read it all, then call their representatives and senators in Congress and tell them to vote no on Pelosi-care and anything that even remotely resembles it. America needs health care reform, but not reform that destroys our existing health-care system, results in significant rationing of care, cause taxes to rise precipitously, and greatly expand government's control over our lives.
