Huckabee now Huckabye

Topics: Political News and commentaries

Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee is now very unlikely to run for the White House in 2012:

Maurice Clemmons, 37, now of Tacoma, Washington, is a suspect in the murder of 4 Lakewood (Washington) police officers at a coffee shop this morning.

"Nine years ago, then-Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee granted clemency to Clemmons, commuting his lengthy prison sentence over the protests of prosecutors," the Seattle Times reported.

He just left jail on a pending charge of second-degree rape of a child.

"Clemmons' criminal history includes at least five felony convictions in Arkansas and at least eight felony charges in Washington. The record also stands out for the number of times he has been released from custody despite questions about the danger he posed," the Seattle Times reported.

At this point, Clemmons is wanted for questioning.

You know who else ought to be questioned? Huckabee. Not by the police, but by the public.

Over the objections of prosecutors, Huckabee arbitrarily reduce the sentence for a violent criminal who is convicted of five felonies.

As the Atlantic points out, with allusions to 1988 Democratic Presidential Nominee Michael Dukakis's pardon of Willie Horton, pundits are saying the murders in Tacoma, Washington by Clemmens is likely to cause Huckabee serious political trouble.
