Baucus: Healthcare Bill Likely to be Wrapped Up Tonight

Topics: Political News and commentaries

It appears that Democrats are on the verge of moving a trillion-dollar healthcare bill onto both floors of the House and Senate for debate in just a matter of weeks. Republicans have tried repeatedly to force changes in the bill relating to taxes, abortion and illegal immigrants, but have been turned back repeatedly.

Any way you look at it, the Democrats' healthcare plans are a prescription for disaster, and the Dems have to know it is - why else are they so afraid for America to see what's in the final plan before it's voted on?

Meanwhile, Rasmussen Reports shows that a whopping 83 percent of Americans think that legislation should be posted online before it is voted on by Congress. Among those, 64 percent think Americans should have two weeks or more to look at the legislation before it becomes law. Support for posting legislation online is high across all demographic groups.

Americans have no chance whatsoever of getting either - thanks to the Democrats' blocking of all efforts by Republicans to have the bill posted for any length of time before it's voted on (so much for transparency).

[...] the Democrats don't want you to know how much this boondoggle will cost, the Democrats don't want you to be able to read the bill before they pass it (likely in the dead of night as per usual), the Democrats don't want you to be alerted if you are losing benefits, and the Democrats don't want all of us to have relief from the sort of lawsuit abuse their favorite campaign donors in the realm of tort law are so prone to perpetrate.

This is an agenda that argues against the good of the public, or the "public weal" as the founders used to say. This is a dark attitude, one that intends to hide what public officials are doing from the voters. Democrats just don't want you know what they are doing. It's really just that simple.
