When Will Our President's Unsuccessful Groveling To Iran End?

Topics: Political News and commentaries

iran-nuclear-bomb-3.jpgJennifer Rubin concludes at Commentary after noting the WaPo's review of the president's record of unsuccessful groveling:

"...even with a brutal crackdown of its own people, the regime bought another eight months - maybe a full year -- to develop its nuclear program with zero consequences. One suspects -- and fears -- that the mullahs' confidence will only grow as they realize that a "deadline" isn't anything to worry about while Obama is in the White House."
This begs a chilling question on this the eighth anniversary of the tragedy of September 11, 2001: Has Barack Obama already fiddled too long while the Iranians build a nuclear bomb?

Lest we forget, just days after Mohamed El-Baradei ("Mohamed" - da'ya think he might be a wee bit protectionist over a Muslim country?) said the Iranian nuclear threat is "hyped," the Times reported that France claims ElBaradei left out evidence of an Iran bomb and the warheads to deliver them. The time for groveling and fiddling is over. The Iranian nuclear threat to the U.S. and Israel is real and growing. The late September deadline is fast approaching.

As Emanuel Ottolengthi writes in addressing Iran's now public negotiating proposal:

Its offer, with no mention of its nuclear program or its obligations under the NPT or UN Security Council Resolutions, reflects this desire to export Iran's revolution and its underlying worldview and to shape a new world order in its image. The international community is entitled to seek a diplomatic solution to the standoff, of course. But it should not equivocate about, discount, or downplay Iran's real intentions--for Iran, negotiations are not about Iranian concessions but about Western peaceful surrender through polite parley before a nuclear Iran can exact similar terms in much blunter ways. (Emphasis mine)
It doesn't take much imagination to know what is meant by Iran exacting terms in "much blunter ways" (with a nuclear bomb in-hand). As a WSJ opinion piece suggests, given Iran's shortening nuclear timetable and diplomatic challenges for forging an international consensus on sanctions, the time has come for Obama to simultaneously to begin preparations for the use of military options.
