AP SPIN METER: $2 trillion in health savings? Where?

Topics: Political News and commentaries

Remember when leaders of the insurance, hospital and other medical industries stood with President Barack Obama at the White House and promised steps to save $2 trillion over the next decade? Well, perhaps it's best to just put it down as spin, and leave it at that.

Meanwhile, CBS reports on the "Five Health Care Promises Obama Won't Keep":

1. No individual mandate
2. Complete transparency
3. Gov't to directly negotiate for drug prices
4. Allow drug importation
5. Lower premiums by $2500 for a family of four
Ed Morrissey adds to the ever-growing list of Obama spin (lies, distortions, and half-truths) - the $4 trillion in savings Obama promised this month at least twice - and says that while the media has mostly swallowed the sloganeering from the White House over the last few months, there are signs of increasing media scrutiny on the wild claims by Obama and Democrats on their ObamaCare bills.

So, are we actually seeing the media wake up to the wild claims of Obama and the Dems on health care, as Ed suggests? My take is that it's too early to tell and that the media has a heck of a lot of waking up to do before we can begin giving them any credit for reporting on what they should have been reporting all along.
