Evidence Suggests Obama and Dems Using Health Care Bill to Payoff ACORN (Nanny State Alert)
Topics: Political News and commentaries
Mike at Mike's America posits - are the Democrats planning to fund a permanent campaign organization with our tax dollars? The quick answer is that evidence strongly suggests that they indeed are. As he points out, that's exactly what Obama and the Democrats have been doing with the massive spending bills, so far, and the health care bill is being done exactly the same way - providing funding for "community-based organizations" (ACORN):.
First it was the stimulus bill that didn't create jobs for average Americans but was instead a big payoff to groups like ACORN. Then, there was the auto bailout deal with turned over the auto companies to the unions. That was another windfall worth billions. As Fleckman notes at his site, since Congress doesn't want to read the Health Care Bill and Obama, ACORN, Unions, Lawyers, & Special Interest Groups don't want you to know whats in this monstrosity, someone had to do it so he decided to do it myself. I've taken all my tweets on the HC bill and put them into one single place. Without his efforts much of what's wrong with the bill would have otherwise been passed over. The full bill can be found here. Now, health care bills in both the House and the Senate mandate even more payola to ACORN
Fleckman, the blogger made famous by twittering what he found in the bill House Dems are pushing for health care "reform" found these nuggets that relate directly to ACORN:
- PG 65 Sec 164 is a payoff subsidized plan 4 retirees and their families in Unions & community orgs (ACORN).
- Pg 95 HC Bill Lines 8-18 The Govt will use groups i.e., ACORN & Americorps 2 sign up indiv. for Govt HC plan.
- Pg 321 2-13 Hospitals have oppt to apply for exception BUT community input required. Can u say ACORN?!!
- Pg 469 - Community Based Home Medical Services=Non profit orgs. Hello, ACORN Medical Svcs here!!?
- Page 472 Lines 14-17 PAYMENT TO COMMUNITY-BASED ORG. 1 monthly payment 2 a community-based org. Like ACORN?
And as Mike also notes, similar language in the Senate's health-care reform bill raises the ACORN issue, and more, with the very first item in a CNS report being a huge red flag of a "Nanny State Alert":
Washington (CNSNews.com...) - Sen. Christopher Dodd (D-Conn.), the man who is shepherding the health-care reform bill through the Senate, says he doesn't know for sure, but the controversial Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) could qualify to receive health-care grants under a provision of the bill that provides money for groups that are members of a "national network of community based organizations."If this doesn't scare the hell out of America, nothing will. Exactly as Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama have said, they want to monitor and control every aspect of our daily lives - it's part of Obama's version of George Orwell's "1984."The grants are designed to fund groups that will "measure" people's health-related behavior on the community level, including whether they are gaining or losing weight, eating the right foods, getting exercise, using tobacco, or engaging in other personal behaviors targeted for federal monitoring by the secretary of health and human services.
[...] These grantees will be charged with carrying out a "community transformation plan," and the targets of their activities will include local schools, infrastructure and restaurants.
The bill specifically directs organizations receiving the grant money that they must "with respect to residents in the community, measure -- (i) decreases in weight; (ii) increases in proper nutrition; (iii) increases in physical activity; (iv) decreases in tobacco use prevalence;(v) other factors using community specific data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey; and(vi) other factors as determined by the Secretary."
Continuing on with ACORN and the health-care bill - comes another red flag from the same CNS report - when Senator Dodd was specifically asked if ACORN could qualify to receive health-care grants under the provision of the bill that provides money for groups that are members of a "national network of community based organizations," he replied:
"I don't believe so, but they could be," Dodd told CNSNews.com.... "I just don't want to say categorically it's the case."Again, Dodd "is the top Senate Democrat responsible for formulating the Affordable Health Choices Act, so how could he not know! Besides, using a "national network of community based organizations" is exactly the same approach used to fund ACORN in the stimulus plan.Dodd (D-Conn.), who is substituting for the ailing Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) as acting chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, is the top Senate Democrat responsible for formulating the Affordable Health Choices Act.
Under the "Creating Healthier Communities" provision of the bill (found on page 382), grants could be awarded to only three types of "entities:" state governments, local governments and groups that are members of a "national network of community-based organizations."
But when CNSNews.com asked, Dodd could not rule out that the controversial group ACORN could benefit from this provision in his bill.
"I'm not saying yes or no, I just don't know. I don't think it's a blanket thing that anyone applies necessarily," he told CNSNews.com. "There would have to be criteria by which an organization qualifies to receive those grants."
He reiterated: "There obviously has to be some criteria by which organizations could receive the grants, and I don't know if there's just a blanket (criterion) for any organization out there," and added "That would be an overstatement."
As Mike notes in his piece, some have suggested, Glenn Beck for example, that this is part of an Obama agenda that is driven by "reparations" and desire to "settle old racial scores" (one that I happen to agree with in a general sense) And while that is a bit of a stretch in the specific case of health-care, especially since the bills are coming out of the House and Senate to Obama, not the other way around, nonetheless, it is clear that the goal of these payments is to finance a permanent campaign to support the election and re-election of Democrats, and "monitor and control every aspect of our daily lives."
