Rep. John Boehner (R-OH): Offering To Speak With Iran Makes America Look "Weak"
Topics: Political News and commentariesRep. John Boehner (R-OH) commented on Pres. Obama's address at Cairo University addressing the Muslim world:
That the Iranian government says the same thing as what Boehner is saying speaks volumes about Obama's "outreach" to Iran:
US President Barack Obama's offer to talk to Iran shows that America's policy of "domination" has failed, the government spokesman said on Saturday.Mideast Expert Aaron Klein also agrees with Boehner."This request means Western ideology has become passive, that capitalist thought and the system of domination have failed," Gholam Hossein Elham was quoted as saying by the Mehr news agency.
"Negotiation is secondary, the main issue is that there is no way but for (the United States) to change," he added.
President Obama's major address tomorrow to the Muslim world along with his diplomacy with Iran and his recent "mild" response to North Korean nuclear testing are coalescing to project an image of American weakness that could result in disastrous ramifications for the U.S.,Obama just doesn't get it, all the talk in the world will only serve to buy time for Iran to develop nuclear weapons. And in the meantime, the more Obama "reaches out" the more America appears as weak. As Omar Fadhil, PJM Baghdad editor noted back in July 08, In the Middle East, more often than not - Diplomacy = Weakness.
And then there's the issue of what Obama said in his speech today about nukes. Via Jim Geraghty:
... Obama's statement that "No nation should pick and choose which nation holds nuclear weapons," pretty much opens the door to an Iranian nuclear bomb. In the process of trying to rally the world to stop the Iranian nuclear program, Obama's just conceded the idea that we -- and the Israelis -- don't have the moral authority to stop it.Just another case of how his "outreach" (read diplomacy) in the Middle East is likely to not only expose the weakness of his policy but be accurately be perceived as such with disastrous consequences.
