Obama "extending hand" to Hezbollah
Topics: Political News and commentariesFirst it was Hamas, then Iran, then the Cairo speech to the Muslim world in general, and now its Hezbollah.
Obama just can't get over his Muslim roots, even though the terrorists he's "extending hands" to have never shown any inclination whatsoever to do anything but kill Israelis, Americans, and any Muslims that happen to not agree with jihadists.
As David Satter wrote at Forbes.com in February of this year, Obama's remarks (at Arabiya) may change the image of America in the Muslim world temporarily. In the long run, however, his approach is self-defeating.
The self-defeatism Satter speaks of regarding the Arabiya interview equally applies to Obama's outreach to Hamas, Iran, Hezbollah, and other jihadists in the Muslim world:
First, it concedes the question of moral legitimacy and so implicitly justifies the murderous behavior that we are trying to restrain.Unfortunately for America, we have elected a man that appears thus far to be both willing to render our policies to be dependent on the judgment of Islamists and weak on defending our country. We can only hope that 2012 comes before it's too late to change such a misguided and naive approach to dealing with our nations enemies. At the same time, by concentrating on America's image, it attaches far too much importance to the mood of the Arab street, rendering U.S. policy dependent on their judgment rather than ours. Finally, it disparages the achievements of the previous administration in strengthening American security, creating the dangerous impression that the Obama administration may not be committed to defending them.
