Obama: Defender of the Faith?

Topics: Political News and commentaries, Understanding Islam

John McCormack points out that in President Obama's Cairo speech yesterday, he declared, "I consider it part of my responsibility as President of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear."

Given that he also said yesterday:

We will open centers of scientific excellence in Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia, and appoint new Science Envoys to collaborate on programs that develop new sources of energy, create green jobs, digitize records, clean water, and grow new crops. And today I am announcing a new global effort with the Organization of the Islamic Conference.
I can't help but wonder if this means he's in support of the Organization of the Islamic Conference's goal to end free speech when it is aimed at exposing the truth about Islamic terrorism and its roots.
