More Hopeandchange "disaster": The revamped 1,201-page Waxman-Markey "cap and trade" energy bill
Topics: Political News and commentariesThe Democrats must believe that Americans are incredibly stupid, and if we allow the cap-and-trade bill to be passed, then they're right.
On the other hand, if the public had a clue of what is in this bill, and just how much it is likely to cost them, they would know that it is a "disaster.", and rise up against it. But the Democrats plan to ram it through without hearings or even public availability of the relevant text. The same legislative process that brought us trillion-dollar stimulus spending and trillion-dollar deficit budgets is about to replicate itself yet again.
As John Hinderaker notes at Powerline:
[...] Obama isn't dumb enough to believe that the many billions of dollars in costs that his proposal will impose on energy companies, etc., will somehow disappear thereafter. But he thinks you are.That "hope and change" Obama promised during the election is taking America down a hopeless road to disastrous change, that may never be reversed. And this, as Americans sit idly by and do diddly-squat about it.[...] Waxman-Markey would be a very stupid bill even if it were true that 1) the earth is getting warmer, 2) human activity is mostly responsible for climate changes, and 3) a warmer earth would be a bad thing. Given that all three of these premises are false--we cannot, in fact, control the weather--Waxman-Markey is a suicidal monument to human folly.
