Is New Michelle Obama Designer Fragrance In The Works?

Topics: Culture and Society, Humor

Well, it was only predictable.

On AOL News today, under "First Lady of fashion," there is a link to an article on StyleList Blog, entitled: "Michelle Obama Style Predictions," that brims with fanatical enthusiasm over the innate beauty (?) and all other sublime "aesthetic and fashion attributes" (??) of "fashion savvy" Michelle Obama. I suppose hairy armpits, a Che T-shirt, Guerrilla Fatigues, and a Black Panther beret, will be all the rave now in the fashion world. Let me gasp, overwhelmed by humbled admiration!

The staff of StyleList fawned all over Michelle Obama, quote:

"If expectations are high for Barack Obama, they're no less soaring for his wife -- at least in a sartorial sense. After two decades of Bush and Clinton women -- for whom style was not a sixth sense -- the inarguably fashionable and seemingly fearless Michelle Obama has trend-watchers in a frenzy. Tall and taut, with the broad shoulders and self-confidence to carry off whatever she wants, Obama has spent the past 21 months being compared to Jacqueline Kennedy."

What? "After two decades of Bush and Clinton women -- for whom style was not a sixth sense" Oh, please! Style may not have been a "sixth sense" for macho-wanna-be, pant-wearing, Hillary; but First Lady Laura Bush, has demonstrated herself to be the Epitome of poise, elegance, and class, regardless of any political connotations!

The staff at StyleList naturally went on to pile endless praise after endless praise on their bow-legged, Quaterback-shouldered, nappy-haired, "Swarthy Jackie Kennedy" (I'm sure elegant Jackie must be turning in her grave), not finding enough superlatives in our vocabulary to express all their sublime groveling adulation of Michelle.

No doubt, soon anything Michelle Obama puts on - even if from Walmart - will become the latest "fad" and all the rave in the houses of "Haute Couture" in Paris and Milan!

This notwithstanding that many readers of StyleList, apparently did not share in such "Revolutionary Fashion" - or is it "Fashion Revolution" - ecstatic exuberance as that of the staff at StyleList, judging by their comments, as one R.D.W. wrote:

"Please do not compare this bowlegged woman with the likes of Jackie Kennedy!! Mrs. Kennedy was the epitome of class...this woman is just another woman in an expensive dress. The tax papers will pay for Obama's dresses where Palin was wearing donated clothes that went back to the suppliers. Good grief! A very homely couple..."

Of course, several Obama supporters promptly retorted that he was just a sore loser Republican, resentful he will have to pay more taxes to dress Michelle Obama in High Fashion. Hmmm, oh well!

Though it remains unconfirmed, is said that Spanish Designer and "Necessaire de Haute Couture," Oscar de la Renta, First Lady Laura Bush's very tasteful personal clothier, upon learning the Obama team wanted for him to create a similar image of poise and elegance for Michelle Obama, remarked in dismay: "La Mona, aunque se vista de seda, mona se queda."

What can I say? C'est la Vie!

I guess now Michelle Obama, just like Elizabeth Taylor, Mariah Carey, and all those other celebrities that feel obliged to come out with a line of perfume that embodies their fragrance, will also come out with her own line of perfume - made from extracts or her urine. It will be called "L'eau du Noir."

I'm sure it will be a most popular fragrance, and all Obama supporters the world over will be splashing it freely upon themselves! I just hope it is not too taxing on Michelle's kidneys.

Tata, form the Fashion World,

Althor :)
