CIA Agent Says Pentagon Botched Chance to Wipe Out al Qaeda in Iraq

Topics:
.... the take home message is that al-Qaeda was indeed in Iraq before the invasion, a CIA team easily slipped into northern Iraq to guide members of the U.S. Army's 10th Special Forces Group into an area of northern Iraq where a local Kurdish extremist group, Ansar al Islam, was giving shelter to al Qaeda leaders who had fled across Iran from the U.S. bombing in Afghanistan, and the Pentagon's endless planning and delays screwed up the mission.

As Scott notes at Flopping Aces, often there have been made claims that there were no weapons of mass destruction and no ties to Al Queda when in fact, most of the WMD claims that were made before the invasion turned out to be true. Iraq was not clean and innocent in regards to WMD, and the ties to Al Queda were wrongly dismissed. Clearly, those naysayers were wrong.
