Eds frustration at Mass

Topics: Political News and commentaries
Ed Morrissey writes today that when he attended Mass yesterday evening he expected to hear actual instruction in the fundamentals of the Catholic faith but instead, to Ed's apparent frustration and/or disappointment, his priest broached the subject of what belongs to secular government and what belongs to God in the context of elections and choices made by voters which left Ed with the feeling that the priest wound up wasting a good opportunity to clarify the Catechism to those who ignore it.

While I've had my share of frustrating times in Mass when a priest would occasionally venture away from theology and broach a subject in the context of elections, I had a completely different kind of experience yesterday when a visiting priest from Russia spoke about the horrific affects of Marxism on the Russian people, the present atheism of Russia resulting from Marxism, the eighty percent Russian divorce rate, the horrific number of abortions by the women of Russia (most have 5 or more) and that some woman have over 30 abortions in their lifetime. And although he mentioned nothing about the American elections during Mass, when I approached him after Mass and we spoke privately about abortions and the upcoming elections here in America, he was quick to speak about what he sees going on in America with our upcoming elections and how America is in danger of being on the verge of experiencing a similar experience with Marxism - and you don't have to use too much imagination who he is referring to. He clearly sees America in great danger of moving too far in the direction of Marxism and an Obama presidency as being a further leap in that direction.

I expect to have a video and transcript of his talk sometime in the next few days and hope to be making it available well before election day.
