Trooper Gate Falling Apart?

Topics: Political News and commentaries

I'm not so sure yet, after all, the anti-Palin media and the left are viral over the Palin pick. However, there is this from a most unlikely source, The Daily Kos.

I thought we had this lady....I really thoght we did, but this dog may not hunt.

The early news on troopergate looked promising. I thought it was the "silver bullet" to sink the McCain/Palin express. However, the case looks more-and-more like a lost cause and may very well backfire giving Gov. Palin "sympathy vote" potential.

Here's what I've discovered so far.

-----------------------------------------------------
Monegan admits to the Anchorage press that NO ONE (Gov. Palin, Palin's husband or Palin's staff) asked that trooper Wooten be fired.

-----------------------------------------------------

Monegan is a governor appointee and can be fired at any time for any reason (or no reason). The only exception is if he was asked to commit a crime, refused, and was fired for it. To date, neither Monegan or the legislature is saying that Monegan was asked to do a crime.

The chief investigator/overseer (Alaska State Senator Hollis French) admitted to the WSJ (before any depositions or investigating) that it will be an "October Surprise", "damaging to the governor", and even hinted of possible criminal charges (aka: impeachment).

NOTE: How in the heck can someone (who is intellectually honest) take this investigation seriously when Mr. French has apparently prejudged the case!!! No wonder the Palins, and her staff, are "lawyering up". If it was Obama, I would be supportive of him getting an attorney.

----------------------------------------------------------

According to Fox News, several top Palin investigators were spotted at
Obama Headquarters (Alaska) on July 30! Can you say "conflict of interest?" It does not put our side in a good light.

Members of the investigative panel who also support Obama:

Chairman: Sen. Kim Elton, Juneau
Sen. Hollis French, Anchorage
Sen. Bettye Davis, Anchorage
Sen. Lyman Hoffman, Bethel
Rep. David Guttenberg, Fairbanks

-----------------------------------------------------------

Palin's attorney comments that the Alaska State Personnel Board (which has legal precedence in this matter) should be the venue because it's state law. The legislative investigation may "investigate" but its subpoenas and findings are non-binding. Translation: those subpeoned by the legilature have the option to refuse. If that wasn't the case, we would be reading stories of witness being held in contempt-of-court and arrest warrents.

Like I said earlier in this post, not so sure yet; Team Obama and the anti-Palin crowd in Alaska are very determined to do everything they can, in true southside Chicago machine politics - style, to do undermine Sarah Palin's credibility.
