Reid's Reversal (He needed McCain, no he doesn't when Obama needs a way out)
Topics: Political News and commentariesAs Jennifer Rubin points out:
Oh, and what happened to the Harry Reid, who was seeking John McCain's advice? A day ago Reid was celebrating when McCain indicated some support for a bailout: "I got some good news in the last hour or so . . . it appears that Sen. McCain is going to come out for this." It looks like Reid is running interference for Obama who doesn't want to come to Washington to do something he never has done-strike a deal. This is no surprise-just disappointing. And Ace calls it like it is: Obama: I Am Such a Leader That I Will Defer to Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi As to Whether I Actually Need to Show Up To Do My Job As Senator
As does Steven Foley: Leadership Obama Believes In: If You Need Me, Call Me!
While Pamela Geller is a bit more direct: REID TO USA: DROP DEAD REID (IN CAHOOTS W/BHO) TELLS MCCAIN, DON'T COME BACK TO DC
And Ed Morressey refers to Allahpundit's update to his excellent post on John McCain's suspension of his campaign: Harry Reid went out of his way to tell him, "don't bother". However, as John McCormack notes at the Weekly Standard, that's just a day after Reid's insistence that McCain return to support the Bush administration's bailout plan. How soon they forget. (edit: especially when it's politically expedient to do so)
Yep, it appears that Obama, Reid and company would rather fiddle while Rome burns and put politics first, last, and foremost before country.
